Is MNET Almighty?

On Sunday night when I heard that M-Net was not to screen "Bruce Almighty" as advertised I thought the reason would be a religious one, after all when the film was released there was a relatively large outcry. However I was astonished to hear that it was in sensitivity to the Tsunami. 7 Feb 2005

Ronald McDonald - the stalker?

I have always had a problem with Ronald McDonald, and clowns in general. There has always been something sinister about them, and I believe I am not the only one who thinks so. 6 Feb 2005

Ridiculous job titles

The ad industry inflates its own importance. Back in the days when advertising was (arguably) sensible, the Art Director was known as a Layout Artist or Commercial Artist and the Art Director fulfilled today's Creative Director Role. 3 Feb 2005

Where have the ethics gone?

Some advertising agencies are seriously taking their clients for a ride... I have personally been involved in two agencies that have blatently stolen money from the client. 31 Jan 2005

Wegbreek ordered to change name

The Cape High Court last week ordered Wegbreek, the Afrikaans travel magazine, to change it's name and various other elements, after the publishers of veteran travel mag, Getaway took it to court for trademark infringement. Is this a classic case of brand copycat or sloppy journalism? 30 Jan 2005

New Baygone ad

Does Baygone honestly believe that moms are going to watch this and think to themselves "I want to be supermom too! I must buy Baygone!"? 27 Jan 2005

Do advertisers think women are morons?

Have you noticed how so many of the worst ads of all time are aimed specifically at women? 25 Jan 2005

The farce of creative pay

Nothing grates me more than that those responsible for the quality of creative work (writers and designers) are paid peanuts while others, like sales, feed off the quality that is provided. For some reason, someone decided that "creative talent" should not not be rewarded accordingly. It is a professional service, yet is not paid professional salaries. Where do the profits go? Not to creative - who actually "makes" the product. It's disgusting. 24 Jan 2005

Since this forum is filled with complaints of poor adverts, why not draw up a list of the Top 10 (we'll probably be able to do a top 100) worst ads... 23 Jan 2005

A Tsunami in SA

A Tsunami is a distaster of gigantic proportions. How many situations right here in SA fit the same description? Yet, do we see adverts pleading for food donations for the thousands of starving South Africans...? 19 Jan 2005

Buying pirate DVDs is a crime

I agree that buying pirate DVDs is a crime but should we not look at DVD prices as a solution? 18 Jan 2005

Is Corporate Social Investment only about Community Development?

It appears to me that companies still want to earn some kind of indirect advertising by being involved in these programmes. 17 Jan 2005

Old Mutual's ''I am. I can. I will.'' Campaign

I think it's fair to say that the new Old Mutual Campaign is extremely disappointing, not to mention lame and lucklustre. 17 Jan 2005

It's so good to be a man

Is nobody else bothered by the sexism in the Windhoek Lager ad? I have always preferred Windhoek, but as a woman find the exclusion of women offensive in their latest campaign, I no longer support the brand, which is sad, it is great beer. 17 Jan 2005

Sleazers Campaign

I don't consider myself a prude, but I find the Teazers billboards, depicting scantily clad women in suggestive poses, very distasteful and demeaning to women. 10 Jan 2005

Hyundai goes from bad to worse

As far as I know Hyundai is the client of one of South Africa's most rewarded and highly regarded agency's (Jupiter Cape Town). Then why this crap, pointless ad for the release of a new car from Hyundai? (the car happens to be an Elantra in case you missed it.) 10 Jan 2005

REDD's -- the ''crisp will get u'' thing is losing taste

Is repetition really good advertising? I think that the advert has been on air for the whole of 2004, with no breaks (or were they too short). 10 Jan 2005
