There won't be snow in South Africa this Christmas time - and we like it that way

There's a strange incongruity when it comes to the dominant imagery used over the Christmas season in South Africa. Even our own street pole decorations and the majority of available Christmas paraphernalia include images of snowflakes, reindeer and the perfunctory snowman.

The South African festive season is, however, much less about snow and gathering around a roaring fire than it is about enjoying the summer sun, lazing on the beach and kicking back while enjoying a braai with friends and family.

Margi Sheard, MD of leading local visual solutions company, Greatstock says, "When it comes to stock imagery and footage for the festive season, there's no need to be constrained by cheesy stereotypes that in no way resonate with what South Africans are actually doing at this time of year."

Greatstock provides visual solutions that are not limited by stock imagery norms and conventions. "In South Africa, holiday 'stock' can be a truly South African Christmas spread, a braai with friends and family or even a holiday in the bush or at the sea," says Sheard.

Greatstock works with local photographers and videographers to secure a broad range of authentic, high quality content that is truly reflective of South Africa and the many other diverse countries on the vast African continent.

"Whether we have to produce the content ourselves, or find it through meticulous research, we provide visual solutions that are relevant to the local market," concludes Sheard.
