Video Editor - Independent Contractor

Remuneration:	R250 - R290 per hour

The video editor will be responsible for assembling recorded and stock video footage into a finished project suitable for high-quality broadcasting. The role requires a creative mind and a strong understanding of storytelling, pacing, and editing techniques to transform raw clips and footage into cohesive and visually compelling content.

Key responsibilities:

• Edit raw footage into polished videos, ensuring high-quality standards and adherence to project deadlines.
• Collaborate with the creative team to understand project scope and objectives.
• Trim footage segments and put together the sequence of the film.
• Input music, dialogues, graphics, and effects to enhance video storytelling.
• Create rough and final cuts of videos.
• Continuously discover and implement new editing technologies and industry’s best practices to maximise efficiency.
• Review shooting script and raw material to create a shot decision list based on scenes’ value and contribution to continuity.
• Consult with stakeholders from production to post-production process.
• Ensure logical sequencing and smooth running.
• Improve and correct lighting, colouring, and faulty footage.
• Experiment with styles and techniques, including the design of graphic elements.

Required:

• Proven work experience as a video editor, with a strong portfolio of completed projects.
• Solid experience with digital technology and editing software packages (Avid Media Composer, Lightworks, Premiere, After Effects, Final Cut, etc.).
• Demonstrable video editing ability with a strong portfolio.
• Thorough knowledge of timing, motivation, and continuity.
• Familiarity with special effects, 3D, and compositing.
• Creative mind and storytelling skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Strong attention to detail and excellent communication skills.
• A degree in film studies, cinematography, or a related field is a plus.

Preferred qualifications:

• Experience with motion graphics and animation.
• Knowledge of colour grading.
• Familiarity with 360-degree and VR video formats.
• Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
