IT Network Specialist

Remuneration:R35000 - R35000 per month

The IT Network Specialist will be responsible for maintaining and optimising the company’s IT infrastructure, ensuring seamless network connectivity, system security, and desktop support. This role requires a hands-on individual who can manage technical, desktop, and network-related tasks while maintaining operational efficiency within a fast-paced freight and logistics environment.

Key responsibilities:
 
Network and infrastructure management:
  • Design, implement, and maintain the company’s LAN, WAN, and wireless networks.
  • Monitor network performance, troubleshoot connectivity issues, and optimise network efficiency.
  • Ensure firewall, security, and VPN configurations are maintained and updated.
  • Manage and maintain switches, routers, and access points.
  • Implement data backup and disaster recovery procedures.
Technical and desktop support:
  • Provide first and second-line technical support to staff on hardware, software, and network-related issues.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve system failures, software glitches, and network interruptions.
  • Install, configure, and maintain operating systems and business-critical applications.
  • Manage user access, permissions, and security settings in Active Directory and other enterprise systems.
  System maintenance and security:
  • Ensure all IT systems, including ERP and logistics software, function optimally.
  • Implement security measures to protect company data from cyber threats.
  • Perform regular software updates, patches, and system maintenance.
  • Ensure compliance with IT policies, industry regulations, and data protection laws.
Additional responsibilities:
  • Assist in IT procurement, evaluating new technologies and hardware/software solutions.
  • Train staff on IT best practices, cybersecurity awareness, and troubleshooting common issues.
  • Collaborate with external vendors and service providers for system upgrades and maintenance.
  • Document IT processes, configurations, and troubleshooting procedures.
  • Support remote work configurations and mobile device management.
Required skills and experience:
  • Education: Degree/Diploma in IT, Computer Science, or related field.
  • Experience: Minimum 3-5 years in IT network and systems administration, preferably in a logistics or freight environment.
Technical Skills:
  • Strong knowledge of networking (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPN, VLAN).
  • Experience with Windows Server, Active Directory, and Office 365 administration.
  • Familiarity with cloud technologies (Azure, AWS) and virtualisation (VMware, Hyper-V).
  • Knowledge of firewall and cybersecurity best practices.
  • ERP and logistics software experience (advantageous).
Soft skills:
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities.
  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced logistics environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently.
Work environment:
  • Office-based with occasional on-site troubleshooting.
  • May require after-hours support for critical system issues.
