Tax Practitioner / Tax Consultant

The ideal candidate for this position must possess expertise in providing professional tax advisory services, ensuring compliance with tax regulations, and assisting clients in accurately filing tax returns while effectively minimising tax liabilities within legal frameworks.

Key responsibilities

  • Prepare and file tax returns for individuals, businesses, and organisations.
  • Ensure compliance with tax laws, regulations, and deadlines.
  • Advise clients on tax planning strategies to optimise tax efficiency.
  • Liaise with tax authorities (e.g., SARS in South Africa) regarding audits, disputes, and assessments.
  • Stay updated on tax laws, amendments, and regulatory changes.
  • Assist with VAT, PAYE, corporate tax, and personal income tax calculations and submissions.
  • Conduct tax risk assessments and implement mitigation strategies.
  • Provide guidance on tax structuring for businesses and investment portfolios.
  • Maintain accurate records of tax filings and related documentation.
  • Represent clients in tax disputes and assist in negotiations with tax authorities.

Qualifications and experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, taxation, or a related field.
  • Registered as a tax practitioner with a recognised professional body (e.g., SARS, SAIT in South Africa).
  • Minimum of one to two years of experience in tax consulting or compliance.
  • Experience with tax software and accounting systems (e.g., SARS eFiling, Pastel, Xero, or SAP).
  • Experience in financial emigration/non-residency applications with SARS.
  • Expertise in exit tax/capital gains tax.
  • Experience handling income tax returns/foreign income received as a non-resident for tax purposes in South Africa.
  • Knowledge of AIT applications.
  • Experience in the deregistration of income tax.
