Senior Azure Data Engineer

Location: Fourways, Johannesburg
Salary: R500 – R600 per hour (negotiable based on experience)

An autonomous Namibian bank, providing financial services to individual and corporate clients as well as international banking services, is looking for an Azure data engineer. This role offers deep insight into compliance and IT methodology processes within the group and ensures internal clients receive extended support due to the organisation’s vested interest in its long-term success.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain big data pipelines using data platforms.
• Map data flows in Azure Data Factory.
• Ensure data sharing aligns with information classification requirements on a need-to-know basis.
• Utilise programming skills in Python, Spark, SQL, and Kusto for data-related tasks.
• Work with Azure data solutions, including Azure Data Factory, Azure Data Explorer, and Azure Databricks.
• Apply expertise in data engineering and data warehouse design.
• Implement modern software engineering practices, including DevOps, CI/CD, and agile processes.
• Experience with advanced analytics and BI tools (e.g., Tableau) is a plus.

Qualifications and experience

• University degree in computer science, data engineering, or a related field focusing on data-intensive applications.
• Experience in architecting and implementing scalable data pipelines in cloud environments.
• Proficiency in managing infrastructure tools such as Azure Virtual Machines, Virtual Networks, ExpressRoute, Azure Active Directory, AD Connect, Operations Management Suite/Log Analytics, Azure Monitor, Azure Site Recovery, Azure Backup, Azure App Services, Azure Storage, Azure Import/Export, Azure SQL Server, and MySQL.
• Strong skills in Python, Spark, SQL, and Azure Data Factory.
