Job description

Background

Key Roles and Responsibilities:
  • Preparation/updating (including module; review)/authoring/coordination of new and existing material (including lesson plans and teaching materials).
  • Maintain the core VLE environment (including student surveys) for the module to ensure parity of content and offering across sites of delivery.
  • Preparing/finalising all the assessments for the module.
  • Drafting the assessment strategy (in consultation with the Lecturers Forum) and maintaining the Assessment Guideline document.
  • Conducting or arranging internal moderation – pre- and post – of all assessments.
  • Managing the external moderation process (pre- and post-assessment).
  • Quality assurance of the module content and offering.
  • Action module-specific outcomes from student surveys.
  • First-level sign-off of the marks for the module and presentation to next level.
  • Conduct success and throughput analysis for the module.
  • Promoting industry liaison for the module.
  • Finalising the academic calendar for the module.
  • Setting the criteria for RPL approval.
  • Quality assurance of the module content and offering.
  • Student support and success (Managing at-risk students) – Keep record of at-risk students.

Qualifications and Experience | Minimum Requirements:
  • A relevant IT qualification at an Honours degree level (NQF8)
  • A Relevant IT qualification at a Master’s Degree level (NQF9) would be advantageous.
  • A relevant IT qualification at a Doctoral Degree level (NQF10) for Senior Lecturer required
  • Specialisation in Programming and Software Development or Computer Science or Information Systems


Key Attributes:
  • Sound knowledge of information systems in information technology and web knowledge. This knowledge allows candidate to confidently explain concepts and processes to students.
  • Basic knowledge in designing/implement software systems and processes into a business.
  • Knowledge in HTML, CSS & JavaScript
  • Knowledge in web animation development utilizing JavaScript.
  • Proficient in applying computational thinking principles through Python programming.
  • Proficient in developing web applications using the ASP.NET MVC framework.
  • Proficient in database management and design.
  • Proficient in backend development using Python and the Flask framework.
  • Skilled in web design utilizing Adobe Creative Cloud tools, including Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign.
  • Experienced in network design and analysis with tools such as Cisco Packet Tracer and Wireshark.
  • Knowledge in and understanding Java (including Object Oriented Programming) concepts with a great sense of logic.
  • Knowledge in and understanding of Java/Kotlin to develop Mobile Applications in Android using Android Studio
  • Knowledge in understanding and setting up websites using Content Management Systems such as WordPress.
  • Engaging with students - serves as a facilitator of learning, providing students with the knowledge and tools to solve problems and then encouraging students to solve them on their own.
  • Good motivator - inspire a love of curiosity and understanding in students.
  • Good team player and communicator.
  • Constantly learning to update own knowledge base - learn, reflect, and improve own practice by self-reflection.
  • Caring for students that struggle with difficult concepts.
