Mobile market growth - Mobile Media Day

The 8th Mobile Media Day will be held on 18 and 19 April 2010 in Amsterdam, Netherlands. It's aim is to challenge the misconception that market growth can only be driven by entertainment and games. The event is organised by the World Association of Newspapers and News Publishers (WAN-IFRA).

"This year, there is a broad adoption among customers for applications and mobile web content, while, at the same time, many news publishers are delivering top-notch quality content and services in both the app and mobile web space," said Stig Nordqvist, executive director for emerging digital platforms and business development at WAN-IFRA.

"Our aim with this year's conference is to present, discuss and debate the latest and developing issues at hand to increase reach and revenues," he said.

Speakers include:

  • Matt Jones, vice president, mobile strategy and operations, Gannett Digital / USA TODAY;
  • Patrick Lenehan, chief technology officer, Independent Digital (Independent Newspapers Ireland Ltd);
  • Federico Vittadello, head of mobile and online VAS, RCS Digital SpA (Italy)

    Sessions will be dedicated to a wide variety of mobile issues, including:

    • All major players, Google included, are betting on strong development of advertising expenditures in the mobile web and application environments. But how do you sell and include advertising on this new media? This question is at the centre of presentations by Marc Lamarche, head of mobile media, Edipresse Publications SA, and Florian Gmeinwieser, MD, Plan.Net Media GmbH & Co. KG, Germany.

    • Philip Sugai, professor of marketing and director of the Mobile Consumer Lab at the International University of Japan, will provide direction on what the industry should focus on in coming months. Sugai, author of Six Immutable Laws of Mobile Business, will be joined by Thomas Hvidt, head of mobile, JP/Politikens Hus Media Group in Denmark, a pioneer and leader in its market, who will also share his vision on what the next moves should be.

    • Some established companies and start-ups are facilitating the creation and launch of innovative mobile services within publishing companies. Their experience and understanding of the trends, as well as their dedication to the success of the publishing industry, will be shared with participants.

    Companies presenting include: Arena Interactive, Conmio, Kooaba, and Mobiletech.no.
