Loeries encourages Africa, Middle East entries

The 2010 Loerie Awards are now open for entries and, in order to encourage more entries from the rest of Africa and the Middle East, Loeries CEO Andrew Human will be in Dubai at the Media One Hotel on Wednesday, 31 March 2010, to deliver a brief presentation about this South African-based event to interested parties. It will be followed by drinks and snacks.
Loeries encourages Africa, Middle East entries

“Work produced by Africa and the Middle East is eligible for entry into the Loeries. However, in previous years we have predominantly received entries from within South Africa. The main reason for this is the misconception that the awards are only open to work produced by South African companies,” says Human.

“We want to change these perceptions by communicating our goal - to recognise, reward and foster creative excellence - to the entire region.”

As evidence of talent beyond South African borders, Impact/BBDO, the Middle East marketing communications group, in 2007 picked up a Grand Prix Loerie for its Snickers TV commercial.

    More exposure for local talent

This year entry rules have changed allowing for international crafts to be entered, as long as the craftsperson involved is from the eligible region. For example, if a New York agency has conceived a television commercial for a US client, but the commercial has been shot by a local director then the work can be entered for a direction craft. The aim is to allow much greater exposure of local talents working for international clients, such as illustrators, designers, directors, editors and cinematographers.

If you are in Dubai next Wednesday, Human will be at the Media One Hotel, 8th Floor Terrace at 6.30pm to for the brief presentation followed by complimentary drinks and canapés.

The entry deadline for The 32nd Annual Loerie Awards is 31 May 2010. For all the information you require to enter, go to www.theloerieawards.co.za and Bizcommunity.com's special Loeries section.

The Loerie Awards Festival Weekend will take place in Cape Town, 1-3 October 2010.
