Sharing knowledge to fight brain drain
The UN cultural body UNESCO is expanding a scheme to slow the brain drain of researchers from Africa and the Middle East. The scheme gives researchers access to global scientific networks and technology.
This enables them to collaborate with researchers around the world while in their home country. Two projects at the University of Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso will benefit. One project to model the movement of pollutants in the drainage basin of Sourou river will allow local researchers to share their resources with counterparts anywhere in the world.
The programme aims to include 100 more universities by the end of 2011.
