    Ericsson launches Pixl8r and Social Media Portal

    Ericsson has launched a social networking portfolio for mobile network operators, the Pixl8r initiative and the Social Media Portal. The technologies together offer sharing of user-generated content across networks.

    Pixl8r is an open-standard solution allowing photo sharing sites to interact in real time. Mobile subscribers can share social media across operator portals and receive SMS notification of friends' activities regardless of network.

    The Social Media Portal is for those wanting to operate a Pixl8r-compatible social networking service. This service allows connection to the social web using various mobile phone and soes does not require client downloads. Content is backed up on a community portal offering personal storage, synchronisation, unified messaging and services for sharing content.

    Laurence McDonald, vice president, Consumer and Business Applications, Ericsson, says: "The social web is a dynamic, continuously evolving ecosystem that offers exciting new revenue opportunities for operators. Ericsson can deliver the tools to allow community services to be delivered under operator brands that work together with the leading web communities."

    The Social Media Portal is a white-labeled portal offering opportunities for advertising revenues from mobile and fixed portals.
