2010 media income highest to date
Local 2010 World Cup organising committee chief executive officer, Danny Jordaan, said revenue from commercial and broadcasting deals for next year's 2010 FIFA World Cup had debunked any notion that Africa's first hosting of the event would be a financial failure.
Jordaan said the US$3.2 billion (around R25.6 billion) generated by FIFA so far was the highest for any World Cup to date.
“The idea that a World Cup on the African continent will lead to huge financial losses, is simply not the case,” he said.
With high levels of interest, given the economic downturn, this month's Confederations Cup would provide a litmus test for Jordaan and the country as a whole.
