Artificial Intelligence Data Engineer

We are looking for a passionate Data Engineer to join our growing team and help us build the future of data. You will play a key role in building and optimizing our data infrastructure. You will work with large datasets, design and implement data pipelines, and ensure that our data solutions are scalable, efficient, and aligned with business goals.

Requirements:

• Hands-on experience deploying, fine-tuning, and integrating AI models (e.g., transformers, embeddings) into data platforms (nice to  have)
• Knowledge of LangChain and or other frameworks (nice to have)
• Experience implementing AI agents for data collection and process automation (nice to have)
• Experience in retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) workflows(nice to have) understanding of cloud services with a focus on data      storage, compute, and AI/ML integrations
• Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code (e.g., Terraform) and CI/CD pipelines for managing deployments      

Leadership:

• Demonstrated ability to act as a tech lead, guiding the design, development, and implementation of data solutions while ensuring alignment with best practices, 1Digit and its client’s objectives
• Skilled in mentoring and supporting team members, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement
• Strong technical decision-making abilities, prioritisation of tasks, and managing resources to meet project deadlines
• Collaboration across teams:
• Proven ability to build strong partnerships with product, technology, and business stakeholders, actively listening to understand their needs and challenges and adjusting approach and thinking accordingly

Reference number for this position is GZ60242 which is a 12- months contract, renewable, 100% remote position (company based in Port Elizabeth) offering a cost to company salary of R1000k per annum negotiable on experience and ability.
