A leading South African bank is seeking a Lead Platform Engineer with expertise in data science platforms to join their team. This role involves designing, implementing, and maintaining scalable and reliable infrastructure to support data science workflows and machine learning models.

Core skills

• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure).
• Knowledge of data engineering and MLOps principles.
• Proficiency in scripting languages (Python, Bash).
• Familiarity with deployment automation tools (Terraform, GitHub Actions).
• Expertise in platform architecture design and testing.
• Understanding of data engineering and MLOps processes.

Key responsibilities

• Design, test, and maintain platform architecture in line with organisational principles of self-service, repeatability, scalability, and resilience.
• Build and optimise infrastructure for data extraction, transformation, and loading from diverse sources.
• Automate and improve data processing, storage, and distribution workflows.
• Translate data architecture directions and business requirements into comprehensive data solution designs.
• Participate in design thinking processes to develop data solution blueprints.
• Ensure full compliance with regulatory requirements and manage risks relevant to the role.

Requirements

• Proven experience in platform engineering with a focus on data science workflows.
• Solid understanding of the technical landscape and bank-specific architecture.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Location: Johannesburg
Salary: Up to R900,000 per annum (negotiable based on experience)
