No more ads for Morgan

Less than a week before the crucial elections in Zimbabwe on 31 July 2013, it was reported that the state-owned Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC) have refused to air two campaign ads with electoral messages from Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai and his wife. The reason supposedly being that "the messages were too powerful" and would be difficult for ZANU-PF to match them. What are thoughts on this?

In other news, David King poses the question "Are you ready to meet the African data boom demand?" According to him, Africa has proven to be somewhat different when it comes to mobile telephony - just look at the unexpected speed with which cellphone usage took off as it substituted for the lack of fixed-line networks and other key infrastructure. He also provides some tips on how you can best prepare to quickly respond to the anticipated demand without investing too much too early.

Samsung Africa has appointed Sung Yong Hong as its new president and CEO effective 1 July 2013. Hong is described as no stranger to the region having spent five years as CFO at Samsung Africa, from 2000 to 2005.

Last but not least, make sure you get the podcast of the latest Biz Takeouts show which focused on marketing and radio advertising with Y&R Advertising.

Cheers!
