All eyes on AfricaFor the past several weeks, all eyes have been on Africa, particularly South Africa, as the world holds its breath over Nelson Mandela's health. With one update after the other, the former president of South Africa's eldest daughter has slammed the media for apparently 'acting like vultures'. Chris Moerdyk recounts just some of the challenges the media face in telling the Mandela story - and of course you get the 'not so factual' stories. Not only are the eyes of the world on Mandela, the President of the United States of America, Barack Obama is in Africa. In other news this week; the Communications Commission of Kenya has revised the broadcasting frequency fees in an attempt to address the existing disparities in the distribution and use of broadcasting spectrum in the country. MTN Uganda customers using the internet has increased more than 85% in the last 12 months leading up to June 2013, according to its chief marketing officer. Fox International Channels will discontinue FOX Retro to ensure that the African portfolio more closely resembles the international channel structure. And lastly, if you're based in South Africa, we've extended the deadline of our reader competition until Monday, 15 July 2013.
