So long to Dr Banda![](https://biz-file.com/b/1004/44070.jpg?1) Last week Friday saw the passing of one of Africa's most prominent media veterans, Dr Aleke Kadonaphani Banda, who aided in building the foundations of some of the continent's biggest print media houses in Malawi. While also participating actively in the political field, he remained an active component in developing the media industry. At his death Banda was chairman of Nation Publications Limited. He is survived by his wife, children and great grandchildren. Africa has 59 days till we welcome the world for the 2010 FIFA World Cup and it seems the US has the most interest in what South Africa has to offer the football world with the country purchasing the most tickets, outside SA. The 2010 Festival of Media is now lurking around the corner with the closing date for the delegate booking site, for both the festival and awards gala dinner, this Wednesday, 14 April. As the African media partner for the event, Bizcommunity.com's special discount is still applicable to all readers; if you plan on flying up to Spain for the event, ensure you make use of this exclusive offer. This is according to Michael Jones, chief technology advocate at Google. Professor Lee Berger from Witswatersrand University in Johannesburg used Google Earth to map known caves and fossil deposits and to locate new fossil deposits by learning to identify what cave sites looked like in satellite images. With the help of the navigation facility and high-resolution satellite imagery in Google Earth, Professor Berger went on to find almost 500 previously unidentified caves and fossil sites, says Jones.
