Are you doing the Diski? I think we're way past the question of whether South Africa is ready to host the 2010 FIFA World Cup or not; it's evident that indeed it is, but whether it will be the biggest and best is still up for debate. Also whether South Africans will bother to leave their desks at noon tomorrow and do the Diski dance to mark the 100-day point to kick-off is still not quite certain. During this build-up to the World Cup phase there is a three-tiered atmosphere emanating from those who are counting down the days till the fiasco is over, those who are psyched and making sure they let their friends and family know they've managed to score tickets on Facebook, and those who are pretty much nonchalant. Either way, love it or hate, it's going to impact all our lives in some way or the other so it's best to just sit back and enjoy the ride or watch the ride go by - whatever floats your boat. Exciting news all the way from the DRC, is that producer and director, Djo Tunda Wa Munga has been recognised as one of the five International Trailblazers for 2010. The DRC is not the most conducive of environments to promote creative development but Munga has managed to build a company and is training the youth in filming. Congratulations and thanks to him for being a more than worthy African representative to the world. Design Indaba 2010

Design Indaba 2010 encouraged students with awards and exposure to enter the world of design. A showing of a short film and the exposition of the top 10 student designs ensured this South African talent met the world.

JOHANNESBURG: Soccer City stadium, the venue for the opening and closing games of the 2010 FIFA World Cup, was declared ready by the sport's international governing body on Saturday, 27 February 2010. 
PRETORIA:- The Department of Tourism will conduct a survey into allegations that some accommodation providers are hiking prices for the 2010 FIFA World Cup. 
Adam Smith, the director of Futures for Group M, which is owned by Martin Sorrell's WPP Group, will discuss the intentions of the major brand advertisers and agencies at the 20th World Newspaper Advertising Conference, to be held on 4 and 5 March 2010 in Copenhagen, Denmark. 
Saudi Telecom (STC) has been awarded the Dubai Lynx 2010 Advertiser of the Year Award - presented to advertisers in the MENA region. Mohammad Al Faraj, general manager: corporate communications will collect the award during the Dubai Lynx awards ceremony that takes place at The Palladium in Dubai on 17 March 2010. 
Bridal Africa, which last year announced it would team up with SA Fashion Week, is producing its own show at the Sandton Convention Centre from 6-7 November 2010. The exhibition will both acknowledge and award local specialist bridal designers and couturiers, reputedly a first for South African bridal shows. 
BARCELONA/LONDON: South Africa's Emma Kaye was re-elected onto the Mobile Entertainment Forum (MEF) board at the general meeting held during the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. She remains the only African representing the continent on the board. 
Matt Kelly, digital content director for Trinity Mirror, demonstrated the need for sites to be "built for humans, not for search engine optimisation" during the first in a series of online seminars offered by the World Editors Forum. Kelly used the paper's new Mirror Football website to show the value of audience loyalty. 
Frikkie Cornelius has been appointed CEO of Primedia Africa, effective 1 March 2010. Originally promoted to general manager of the then Primedia Outdoor Africa Division in January 2008, Cornelius has been with the company's Out of Home Division since 1994. 
The Trillion Dollar billboard campaign, that TBWA\Hunt\Lascaris developed for client The Zimbabwean newspaper, satisfied every criterion set by judges, who gave it the top prize in the billboard category and the Overall prize for Best in Show in the annual OHMSA Awards held at the Indaba Hotel in Johannesburg late last week. 
PARIS: MIPDOC, the international showcase for documentary screenings, has named the five producers to receive recognition at the International Trailblazer Awards at MIPDOC 2010, including the DRC's Djo Tunda Wa Munga. The event runs from 10 - 11 April 2010 at the Hotel Martinez in Cannes, ahead of MIPTV. 
JOHANNESBURG: Waggener Edstrom Worldwide (WE) today, Monday, 1 March 2010, announced its expansion into Africa with a new office based in Johannesburg, South Africa, with Marcus Sorour as GM. The agency was recently appointed to drive pan-African corporate and technology PR for Microsoft Corp's West, East, Central Africa and Indian Ocean Islands account, following a three-way pitch. 
South African-based Lesley Simpson Communications (LSC) has been appointed by Kenya Airways to manage their PR during 2010. Two campaigns will be running simultaneously during the period, including outbound and inbound operations. 
The 12th PAMRO meeting and All Africa Media Research Conference will take place from 22 - 25 August 2010 in Gaborone, Botswana at the Grand Palm. Updates on media audience research activities from countries from all parts of Africa will be provided.
