The power of mobile

With less than a month away from the 62nd World Newspaper Conference, a number of top speakers have been announced as part of the line-up at this year's event; one of the most important, being Olivier Fleurot, CE at Publicis Events Worldwide. He'll be looking at advertising effectiveness on the web and how news sites need to offer a platform that focuses on quality rather than quantity if they're going to attract advertisers. It's an issue that has no easy solution in the age of information overload. Loyal users are hard to come by these days and succeeding in this arena will put you at the top of the game.

I recently upgraded my mobile phone and a week later I'm still learning how to fully make use of this multipurpose gadget that could serve as a game console, camera, GPS, radio, internet surfing browser among the list of other incredible things it can do. While mobile phone manufacturers are constantly trying to innovate and introduce more functions to the device, World Wide Worx has found that most people over the age of 35 don't really use them. From those included in the survey it was established that 76% of their spending goes on voice calls and 16% on SMSes, with 8% spent on peripheral services. The potential of the handset is virtually limitless and those willing to explore its possibilities will find their lives made a whole lot easier - essentially its like holding access to the world in one hand - and if that isn't awesome, I don't know what is.
