    According to forecasts by Informa Telecoms & Media's WCIS, the African market is on the increase, with African subscriptions expected to have surpassed 211m at the end of March. This will reflect over an 8% increase on the previous quarter.

    Get connected via mobile broadband
    Nigeria's second national operator, Globacom, has awarded Alcatel-Lucent the contract to install a wireless network in selected Nigerian cities, including Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt, Benin and Ibadan. The network is to be based on UMTS/HSPA (Universal Mobile Telecommunications Service/High Speed Packet Access) technology, and aims to provide an additional one million subscribers with mobile broadband services. - Alcatel-Lucent

    On 25 April 2007, The Namibian newspaper reported that its editor, Gwen Lister, and The Free Press of Namibia, the company that owns and publishes the newspaper, were instructed to pay N$7 million (approximately US$1 million) to the Palazzolo family, or face legal action in the form of five defamation suits.
