AFRICA CSD Student Awards 2007 open for entry The Chartered Society of Designers Awards 2007 is open for entries from second to fourth year full-time design students worldwide. Submissions will be accepted from the following design disciplines: exhibition, fashion, graphic, interactive media, interior, product and textiles. All projects must be accompanied by a written report. Students stand to win £1,000 in prize money, a CSD Student Membership until the end of their current course, and more. This was demonstrated at the recent 5th World Summit on Media for Children, where a former child soldier from Liberia, now a radio presenter, made an emotional testimony about how the media changed his life.
SOUTH AFRICA Steadman Group to launch its services into SA - Monitoring South Africa The Kenyan-based Steadman Group will be launching its advertising monitoring and verification services into South Africa during April 2007, in association with Monitoring South Africa (MSA). Steadman clients will be offered access to the SA media and enjoy the same high level of service offered by the group in the rest of Africa.
CENTRAL AFRICA Editor Michel Ngady charged with "obstruction" Editor and media activist, Michel Alkhaly Ngady, has been charged with "obstruction of the law and the institutions of the Republic" for his critism of the Central African Republic's High Council of Communication's appointment of new members who did not meet its own standards for membership. Ngady was charged on 26 March 2007 by the prosecutor of Bangui, and has been imprisoned for 16 days without bail. The prosecutor has requested that the court sentence him to two years in jail, and the case will be decided upon today, 2 April. - IFJ
