Mlungisi Dlukulu (21) was recently appointed Progamming Manager of Rhodes Music Radio (RMR) in Grahamstown. He is currently completing a BA at Rhodes University and intends to do a Higher Diploma in Journalism next year to complement his radio skills.
He joined the station in 2000 as a DJ, hosting the prestigious show Africanism and was earlier this year appointed to the Drivetime team (4-7pm). His appointment as Programming Manager comes after an intense round of interviews by the station’s management to find a replacement for Lois Moodley after she recently stepped down from the position. Lois will be pursuing a new career in industry and the station wishes her all the best in her career.
Following his appointment, Mlungisi said “The position is quite a step from where I began, and I am looking forward to the challenge. Now I will be able to do what I have always wanted to do, put the plans in my head into action, help build programming and take the station to new heights.”
The move, welcomed by the majority of the staff, will see a few new changes to the station’s programming lineup in the coming weeks. Mike Smurthwaite, Station Manager said after the announcement “I am personally very happy to have Mlungisi on board and believe that he is the right man for the job.” Mlungisi officially takes up the position on the 3rd of September 2003.
