Agnes Ngwenya appointed deputy group sales director of The inc
Agnes Ngwenya, presently national sales manager for New African Publications, has been appointed deputy group sales director of The inc, sales and marketing arm of Independent Newspapers. She will take up her new post on 1st August 2003.
Making the announcement, Andrew Cuthbertson, group sales director for The inc said, "Agnes is the second important appointment in our plan to consolidate The inc's position as the leading newspaper sales team in South Africa. What I call our 'renaissance' - refocusing the sales drive - began some months back with the selection of Bridgette Manamela to fill the role of business development manager. Bridgette will be part of Agnes' team, focused on adding value to Independent's advertising clients through promotions, sponsorships and other below-the-line activities."
And he added wryly, "In any event, when Agnes arrives on August 1st, we will merely be recovering the services of a star operator we inadvertently loaned to Sowetan three years ago!" Cuthbertson explains that Ngwenya previously worked at Independent Newspapers for an extended period, initially as sales executive for The Star Workplace when the supplement was a mere three months old and eventually leaving the company six years later as a sales manager for The inc, to move to the opposition publisher.
Asked for her reaction, Tish Farrell, media director at Y & R Hedley Byrne, said, "Agnes is a very capable lady who gets the job done. She really walks the talk and I'm very chuffed that she's coming back to The inc - we relied on her there in the past and will happily do so again."
