Brett Morris newly appointed executive CD of FCB Joburg

Brett Morris has taken over the reins as executive creative director from Eoin Welsh at FCB Johannesburg.

Morris started his advertising career with the FCB South Africa group in 1995 and honed his skills as a copywriter before moving on to Net#work BBDO, where he worked for three years. He rejoined FCB Johannesburg just before the millennium as head of a creative team.

Announcing the appointment, FCB South Africa group executive creative director Ashley Bacon said he’d always favoured promoting an insider ahead of bringing in an outsider because it was critical for the person to understand and empathise with the agency’s culture to ensure a smooth transition for both clients and staff.

"When he returned to the FCB Johannesburg creative team as a senior player, Brett immediately made his mark on the South African advertising scene with his rare skill for writing radio ads and winning awards. Many of the young creative staff soon started to look up to him and ask for his advice on how to sharpen their own work. So, in a way, being a creative director - not just of his own group - is something he's already been quietly doing for some time.

"The response from the creative department to this appointment has been overwhelmingly positive and I'm certain that Brett will prove to be an inspired leader, nurturing young talent and ensuring the creative teams deliver responsible, accountable and creative solutions to the agency’s clients," Bacon said.

Welsh has left FCB Johannesburg to take up the position of creative director of KingJames’ new Johannesburg agency.
