Richard Perry appointed station director of TuksFM

In a move aimed at taking South African student radio into a new era, Pretoria based campus radio station TuksFM has appointed Richard Perry as their new station director.

After beginning his radio career at TuksFM as a volunteer in 1996, Perry was appointed TuksFM programme manager, before leaving the station in 2000 for the commercial giant Highveld Stereo. He was a freelance presenter at Highveld, and became producer of their popular morning show, 'The Rude Awakening'.

Founded in 1980 by the University of Pretoria, TuksFM has grown from a landline based broadcaster into a round-the-clock community radio station, broadcasting on the 107.2FM frequency from the main campus of the University of Pretoria.

The station covers a geographical area in the Tswane region, from Hammanskraal in the north to Atteridgeville, Midrand and Kempton Park in the south, with a spillover that reaches as far as Warmbaths, Randburg, Krugersdorp and Sandton.

According to the latest listenership ratings, TuksFM is the second largest community station in Gauteng and the largest campus radio station in South Africa.
