Cannes accolades for Suburban Films Directors

Two of Suburban Films' Directors have scored at the prestigious Cannes Lions Festival this year.

Miles Goodall, Director/Cinematographer, showed just why everyone seems to want a piece of him, picking up a Silver Lion in the Public Health and Safety Category for his moving Aids awareness spot 'Village/Old Man' for the French Charity AIDES.

Goodall was the only South African Director of all those entered this year to be chosen for a prestigious Lion Award.

The spot was written by this year's Agency of the Year at the festival, TBWA\Paris, and was produced entirely in South Africa by Linda Notelovitz of Suburban Films, in association with Hamster Publicité, Paris. This was the top film accolade this year for TBWA\Paris and Creative Director Erik Vervroegen was quoted as saying it was the best film he has done at the agency.

Suburban Films' newest addition to its Directors Roster also made his mark on the Cannes Festival this year. Cameron Platter, an accomplished animation artist from South Africa, who has already been exhibited widely across Europe, was selected as one of the 26 from a list of 500 to be included in the much vaunted Saatchi and Saatchi New Directors Showcase. The sole South African to be included in the showcase, Cameron has yet to direct any work to be flighted professionally, only having turned his attentions to directing in the last couple of months, but the Saatchis jury clearly saw the huge potential his unusual style has to succeed in the market. Needless to say Cameron was delighted when given the news at his latest exhibition back in South Africa and is itching to apply his artistic talents to the commercial arena in the very near future.
