Parmalat SA acquires top notch cheese brands
Parmalat South Africa has concluded a deal with Unilever Bestfoods Robertsons (UBR), acquiring two of the country's leading cheese brands, Simonsberg and Melrose. The deal will come into effect on approval by the Competition Commission. Last year UBR's cheese division turnover was R138 million. South Africa's total cheese market is worth approximately R1.1 billion per annum.
