Tshwane and the ASA at loggerheads
Tshwane Metropolitan Municipality is to appeal against a ruling by the Advertising Standards Authority that it must pay for adverts to correct perceptions that it is South Africa's capital. Earlier this month, the ASA ordered the council to issue and pay for adverts admitting that its marketing campaign referring to Tshwane as 'capital' was misleading. The trade union Solidarity, the Gauteng North Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Federation of Afrikaans Cultural Organisations initially lodged a complaint with the ASA.
