No glory for ambush marketers at the Olympics
With the Summer Olympics set to start on August 13, security forces have mounted a vast operation to prevent a terrorist attack in Athens. Meanwhile, a smaller-scale mobilization is under way in an effort to protect certain Olympic VIPs - the 11 official sponsors of the Games - from so-called ambush marketers. The Athens measures appear to stop slightly short of steps taken by the Cricket World Cup in South Africa last year, when organizers persuaded the government to pass a law making ambush marketing a criminal offense. Spectators said they were ejected from the stands for drinking cans of Coca-Cola - Pepsi was an official sponsor - though the organizers said they had been removed for safety reasons.
