Labour rules for child actors
A sectoral determination that will regulate the involvement of children in the performing arts was announced by Labour Minister Membathisis Mdladlana. By law, children under the age of 15 are not allowed to work. An exception exists for child actors and models who are involved in the performing arts and advertising industries. However, this was not regulated in the past. In future, employers will have to have a permit if they want to use children in productions or advertisement and applications for permits must be accompanied by written permission from the child's parents.
