US 'do not call' list banned by judge
Since late June, consumers in the United States have registered more than 50 million phone numbers on the Federal Trade Commission's anti-telemarketing list, www.Donotcall.gov. The American Teleservices Association has taken the FTC to court because such a list would effectively cripple the telemarketing industry. The initial ruling banned the list, congress then quickly voted and overturned the ruling, but their vote has again been overturned by a judge on technical grounds. The FTC has indicated that the judgement will be appealed in order to legalise the list and force the telemarketing industry to follow it.
