World Young Reader prizes awarded at WAN conference
AMSTERDAM: The World Association of Newspapers (WAN) yesterday, Thursday, 16 October 2008, presented its annual World Young Reader Newspaper of the Year award to the Polish daily Gazeta Wyborcza at the WAN Readership Conference in Amsterdam. Other winners to receive Young Reader Awards, announced on 8 September on World Literacy Day, included Independent Newspapers, Media 24, Avusa and Associated Independent Press for their “National Teachers Strike Recovery Initiative” in the Public Service category. Matthew Buckland, 24.com's GM of online publishing and social media, spoke about the media harnessing the best of user-generated content (UGC) at the World Digital Publishing Conference, a parallel event.
