MTN to curb unsolicited SMS
MTN has introduced a solution to filter out unsolicited SMS before they are forwarded to its client base in an effort to control fraudsters that have been billing mobile customers for services for which they have not signed up. This follows numerous complaints regarding a number of WASPS (Wireless Application Service Providers) sending unsolicited spam messages and content to its subscriber base via unauthorised (and often international) partners. The Wireless Application Service Providers Association (WASPA), the industry body that monitors bad service among mobile advertisers, has encouraged consumers to report any unsolicited SMS they may receive.
