Pornography on TV battle to start
A legal battle over the decision to allow three pornographic channels to be broadcast on television is likely to go all the way to the Constitutional Court‚ a legal expert said last week.
The Justice Alliance of South Africa is challenging the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa's decision last year to allow On Digital Media's TopTV - now known as StarSat - to broadcast the channels on its pay-TV platform after 8pm.The channels have since been launched.
The matter will be heard in the Western Cape High Court today, Monday.
Constitutional and legal expert professor Shadrack Gutto of the University of South Africa said the case would pit the rights protecting children against those of freedom of expression. - BDlive
