Roughly 1.9-million articles from Sapa archive released anonymously online

Many thought it was an April Fool's media industry joke at first, but the South African Press Association closed for good on 1 April 2015.

That's not to say we've seen the end of its content though, as an as-yet anonymous hack has placed most of its archives online - for free.

TechCentral reports that the move, by an unidentified hacker group, violates the copyright of new owner, Sekunjalo Investment Holdings.

Memeburn adds that this comes after Sapa "sent out a letter to its subscribers requesting that news sites across the country delete Sapa content from their archives."

The archive is currently only available on Tor, the highly secure, anonymous communication network.
