    This week's biggest stories

Here's a rundown of Acumen Media's seven-day analysis of the biggest news stories in South Africa.

    1. President Cyril Ramaphosa's State of the Nation Address (Sona) takes first place with both the Sona debate and Sona reply happening this week.
    2. Bafana Bafana made their way to the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) and were smashed by Ivory Coast. The nation was not surprised; in fact, their net sentiment is one of the highest because we laughed a great deal.
    3. The ongoing State Capture Inquiry saw fascinating testimony about BNP Capital and South African Airways (SAA).
    4. The Public Protector's probe into Ramaphosa and the half a million rand Bosasa payment kept her in the charts this week.
    5. A fire at the South African Broadcasting Corporation's (SABC) Radio Park building in Johannesburg caused havoc and speculation at the broadcaster.
    6. Public Enterprises Minister Pravin Gordhan (outside of Sona) made headlines as he slated Corporate South Africa for being as corrupt as the stories we are hearing about the ruling party. Gordhan came out punching stating that harsher penalties should be handed to consultancy and auditing firms for their contribution to state capture.
    7. The Daily Maverick launched #BusinessAgainstCorruption where many voices commended whistle-blowers and lamented about KPMG in particular.
    8. A viral video of a pastor in an Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) cap being subjected to racist slurs and physical abuse made a big impact this week.
    9. Some thought April's Fool had come twice a year as we read headlines that former president Jacob Zuma will attend the Zondo Commission in July.
