New ABC term for community press
The term 'Community Press' has been replaced by 'Local Media', according to the Audit Bureau of Circulations of South Africa. In terms of a joint decision taken by Print Media SA and the Media Development and Diversity Agency, the industry now recognizes the definitions indicated in the MDDA Act of 2002. Community Media - means any media project that is owned and controlled by a community where any financial surplus generated is reinvested in the media project; and "community" means a geographically founded community or any group of persons or sector of the public having a specific ascertainable common interest. All previously titled Community Press Newspaper Certificates and reports will from now be termed Local Newspaper.
