Ogilvy chief executive to retire in 2021

Adweek reports that Ogilvy global chief executive officer John Seifert announced in a memo that he plans to leave the position in 2021. Seifert has spent more than 40 years working at the WPP agency and took over the chief executive role from Mile Young in early 2016.

During his tenure at Ogilvy, Seifert led the agency's global restructuring and its rebrand on its 70th anniversary. In the memo, Seifert said that he and WPP CEO Mark Read agreed earlier this year that the time was right to search for a successor to lead Ogilvy globally. "It's been an extraordinary privilege to serve Ogilvy since joining the company as a summer intern in 1979. I love this company with all my heart and will be forever supportive of its success," Seifert said.

Seifert will continue to lead Ogilvy until his successor is appointed and the leadership transition is completed sometime in 2021.
