Revolutionised learning - Mon, 31 Aug 2009I've never participated in distance learning and am fairly sceptical about whether it is as beneficial a tool as traditional learning methods. Feedback from those who have tried distance learning through locally based institutions has been more negative than positive - so where does online learning fit in? Lyndi Lawson looks at distance learning and the internet and weighs up how the internet has revolutionised the education sector in a two-part series. The internet is not just changing our learning methods but also revolutionising to suit our needs. Google Translate now supports nine new languages that includes Afrikaans, a widely spoken language in South Africa and Namibia, as well as Swahili - a language spoken among various groups in Southern and Eastern Africa. It seems the relationship people have with technology is a mutually beneficial one. It improves our lives to many degrees and with technology there are never-ending advancements making it easier to use and access information. So, on that note, here's to the digital age - may it bring more prosperity to its African users.
