Welcome to Africa’s newest state, South Sudan - 11 Jul 2011
By Cheers, Sindy Peters ([[@sindylp]]): Africa editorCongratulations South Sudan on achieving independence and becoming Africa's 54th state. Celebrations took place on Saturday, 9 July at the Dr John Garang Stadium welcoming the newly-founded country. It's an exciting time for the South Sudanese with a whiff of promise in the air and a new-found hope in what the future holds. May the years to come see the country develop into a flourishing nation and see the current leadership plant the seeds to sustainable success and nurture them well.
On a more frivolous note, African Fashion International's (AFI) Cape Town Fashion Week (CTFW) starts this Wednesday, 13 July. Dakar held its own fashion parade mid last week, but the models were made to strut without any music, which probably put quite a damper on the event. A government official turned up and ordered the music be turned off as there were unresolved issues concerning copyright.
I'm sure though, that AFI have all their ducks in a row for CTFW; see all you fashionistas there!
