Enter the CNN MultiChoice African Journalist 2013 Awards - 15 Apr 2013

By Evan-Lee Courie [[@evan1985]]

The CNN African Journalist of the Year Competition was established in August 1995 to encourage, promote and recognise excellence in African journalism. In the early nineties Edward Boateng, the then regional director of Turner Broadcasting, was travelling around the African continent on business. During his travels he became concerned about the lack of respect journalists received and he decided to try and help them gain recognition for their hard work and commitment. Find out more about the awards here.

Now in its 18th year, the awards are still going strong and continues to recognise African journalists in various categories - from radio and television to digital and environmental journalism. Journalists who are entering this year's competition have until this Wednesday, 17 April 2013 to send in their completed entry forms and supporting material. Entries can be found online at www.cnn.com/WORLD/africa/africanawards.

Previous winners include: Tom Mboya and Evanson Nyaga (2012), Fatuma Noor (2011) - all from Kenya and Sam Rogers (2010) from South Africa.

In news this week; TBWA\ has appointed Graham Cruikshanks as the group's new director of African operations. His appointment is with immediate effect. MISA-Botswana recently appointed a new national director, Buyani Zongwani. Following a trial period in six of its major markets across Africa, MTN has gone live with a bouquet of distinct cloud services this April. Mark Gray provides some insight into social recruiting and Yolandi Nortje states that the rise of social media has moved beyond social interaction to providing a powerful HR tool in the recruitment process. I'll continue to say, think before you post because your potential future employer may be sussing you out - online.

Enjoy your week!
