Well done Loeries finalists! - 30 Aug 2010

By Sindy Peters, Africa editor

Well done Loeries finalists! - Mon, 30 Aug 2010Congratulations to all the 2010 Loeries finalists; we in Cape Town look forward to hosting the lot of you! While I sincerely preferred Loeries in the quaint holiday town of Margate, I suppose Cape Town has its pluses. Hopefully the weather is gorgeous over that weekend so all you tourists can enjoy the beautiful city to the max when you're not off celebrating your wins and toasting to knocking the competition out.

Special congratulations go to finalists outside of South Africa which includes a number from the UAE region, but more specifically, DDB Mozambique and Kenya's Scanad. Good luck, I'll be holding thumbs for you. Winning a Loerie is a great feather to have in any agency's cap.

The Shuttleworth Foundation recently launched the Yoza m-Novel Library - a database of short stories, accessible via mobile phones, for teenagers aimed at encouraging reading and writing amongst the youth in South Africa. The great part of the project is that there are expansion plans for the rest of Africa. It's a no-brainer that the ability to read and write in today's world is the first step to great achievements, and Africa can use all the literate children it can get to boost development and lead their nations toward a progressive future.

It's always nice to know that people care!
