As 2012 comes to an end...I remember like it was yesterday, the beginning of 2012. We're approaching the last lap of the year and before you know it, it's 2013! We have several newsletters until our very last one for the year on Tuesday, 18 December. Expect the first newsletter in your inbox on Monday, 7 January 2013. In news this week, Saint-Francis Tohlang explores the curious case of Alcatel. He reckons that the brand will once again emerge in 2013. According to the Global Mobile Consumer Survey, 88% of the world's mobile media users now engage in mobile content and commerce. Andrew Bud, global chair of MEF, who conducted the survery, says that "mobile content and commerce is increasingly the most convenient way to discover, to choose and to buy". Athar Naser looks at how social media campaigns and content marketing campaigns can and should coexist. Are you using social media as a conduit for your targeted content? Nolo Letele will be awarded the Lifetime African Achievement Prize for Media Development in Africa by The Millennium Excellence Foundation. The prize is awarded to individuals who have selflessly devoted themselves to bring about change in the lives of Africans within the last decade. And ahead of the December festive season, pay TV subscribers in Uganda are being rewarded by their services providers in the form of discounted monthly subscription fees as well as discounts on new decoders.
