NEW YORK: The Committee to Protect Journalists yesterday, 3 June 2011, called on Egypt's ruling Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF) to stop its harassment of journalists who report critically on the military. Inter Press Service (IPS) Africa will be hosting a media workshop to improve the knowledge of reporters and provide additional skills on covering water issues. Print and radio journalists from countries within the SADC region (except Madagascar) are invited to submit applications for scholarships which includes transport, accommodation and meals. MTN has signed an agreement with Content Connect Africa (CCA), an aggregator and provider of on- and off-portal content. The network will now offer a wider variety of music to its customers via the MTNplay digital content portal. Read more >>

TARIFA: The eighth African Film Festival of Tarifa, hostsed from 11-19 June 2011, will feature 140 films from 23 African countries, which will compete for eight awards. The festival will welcome over 200 African filmmakers including African directors Abderrahmane Sissako and Moustapha Alassane. It will focus on, among others, African Diaspora in Latin America, the role of cinema in recent revolutions in Tunis and Egypt, and a restrospective of Congolese cinematography. Read more >>
