Bizcommunity.com unveils new face

After months of behind-the-scenes activity, we're thrilled to unveil a revamped Bizcommunity.com, featuring a host of new features - from an expanded set of self promotional tools - such as personal profiles appearing on the front page of the websites as well as in the newsletter, to the ability to find, follow, subscribe and share with your favourite industry personalities and opinion leaders.

New and updated features include Profiles (set up or update your profile); the Industry Wall which may be browsed by industry or category; the People directory which allows you to find people by industry, by category or job title; Follow and be followed: subscribe to the updates and comments of select individuals via the newsfeed by clicking the Follow button beside any profile; Showcase: individuals or companies can showcase designs under 13 different categories; My archive: you may now archive any content you find on biz to read at a later stage by clicking on the 'Add to my archive' icon found at the footer of every article. All articles will be stored within the "My archive" link under the Profile tab of the top menu bar.

The annual Africa Day concert is confirmed to take place at Newtown Park in Johannesburg, South Africa on Saturday, 28 May 2011. Africa takes two awards at the EMEA Sabre Awards
With four finalists in the 2011 EMEA SABRE Awards, Africa walked away with two prizes. The winners were announced late last week at the Prague Castle in the Czech Republic. College Hill was awarded in the Government agencies category for the "Royal Bafokeng Nation, Beyond Platinum" campaign, while Unilever Kenya with Apex Communications Porter Novelli won in the Africa category for "Surprisingly Lifebuoy." TARIFA: 25 photographers from 11 African countries will compete in the finale of the fourth Photoafrica contest, which will take place during the eighth African Film Festival of Tarifa (FCAT) in Spain, from 16-19 June 2011. MALAWI
EU injects €161 million into Malawi's ailing economy
[Gregory Gondwe] The European Union, mid last week, announced the approval of €161 million (approximately MWK 34 billion) that will go towards a package of six strategic programmes. This assistance is in line with Malawi's 2010 Annual Action Programme under the 10th European Development Fund (EDF). About €12 million (approximately MKW 2.8 billion) of this money will go towards a new Capacity Building Programme for Trade and Private Sector Development. Read more >>

Stanbic Bank Botswana signs Morupule debt financing agreement
The Standard Bank Group, through its Corporate and Investment Banking Division, has acted as lead arranger for the Morupule Expansion project. The signing ceremony was held on 20 May 2011 in Palapye, Botswana. The P1.2 billion-loan raised will be part of the contribution in bank and shareholder loans for the P1.7 billion required to expand output at the coal mine. Read more >>

NUREMBERG, GERMANY: Trust and familiarity are the key drivers in consumer preference for mobile payment services, according to a new study. The survey by GfK NOP, a global market research agency, covered nine countries (US, UK, France, Italy, Germany, Spain, South Korea, Brazil and China) and included 8603 online interviews, with each country's sample designed to represent their online population.
