In commemorating World Press Freedom Day on 3 May 2011 a wide range of editorial and advertising materials are being offered free of charge by the World Association of Newspapers and News Publishers (WAN-IFRA) to newspapers and other media for publication. Newspapers publish WAN-IFRA materials each year to remind readers of the central role a free press plays in democracy and in economic, cultural, social and political development. [Staff reporter] Science journalists in Africa have been offered the opportunity to participate in the seventh World Conference of Science Journalists in Doha, Qatar this June. The conference which is open to 100 journalists reporting in developing countries like Uganda is scheduled to take place from 27-29 June 2011, according to Nadia El-Awady, the president of the World Federation of Science Journalists.
