AFRICA Bizcommunity Africa journo wins top award Walter Wafula, Ugandan correspondent for Bizcommunity Africa and journalist under The Monitor Publications, publisher of The Monitor and Sunday Monitor, has been awarded Overall Winner of the 2010 Kikonyogo Capital Markets Awards (KCMA) and the winner of KCMA for Financial Journalism in the print category. Wafula wins the grand prize consisting of a three-day all-expenses-paid study-trip to South Africa, in addition to Shs1 million (US$500) worth of company shares at the Uganda Securities Exchange. [Gregory Gondwe] The 2010 MISA-Malawi Media Awards were held earlier this week as part of the World Press Freedom Day celebrations at the Mount Soche Hotel in Blantyre. Journalist Maxwell Ng'ambi won the overall media award as well as the 2010 Best Investigative Journalist Award for the fourth consecutive year. Media activists in Zimbabwe have criticised the government for delaying the registration of new newspapers and failing to implement media reforms. Climate change could significantly reverse progress made towards reducing hunger and poverty in Africa, the United Nations said on Tuesday (4 May 2010). The UN's Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) warned at a conference being held in Angola this week that crop yields are likely to be reduced as a result of global warming and increasingly erratic weather patterns.
