So long to Dr Banda

Last week Friday saw the passing of one of Africa's most prominent media veterans, Dr Aleke Kadonaphani Banda, who aided in building the foundations of some of the continent's biggest print media houses in Malawi. While also participating actively in the political field, he remained an active component in developing the media industry. At his death Banda was chairman of Nation Publications Limited. He is survived by his wife, children and great grandchildren.

Africa has 59 days till we welcome the world for the 2010 FIFA World Cup and it seems the US has the most interest in what South Africa has to offer the football world with the country purchasing the most tickets, outside SA. The final phase for ticket sales is opening this week on Thursday, 15 April so make sure you're ahead of the queue of last minute fans hoping to see the inside of the spectacular stadia.

The 2010 Festival of Media is now lurking around the corner with the closing date for the delegate booking site, for both the festival and awards gala dinner, this Wednesday, 14 April.
