Press freedom threat in DRC
The assassination of a journalist in the Democratic Republic of Congo has increased concerns among media activists about press freedom in the country. An investigation has been launched into the murder of Bruno Chirambiza, a reporter from Radio Star in the Bukavu district, who was stabbed by eight men in an apparently premeditated attack on Saturday, 22 August 2009. MTN releases mid-year financial results
According to the MTN Group, it has reached satisfactory financial results for the six month period ended 30 June 2009 amid the economic downturn. The group's reported revenue and EBITDA results, when compared to the prior six month period ended 30 June, were not materially impacted by movements in currencies in the majority of countries in which it operates against the ZAR.
