The World Young Reader Prize, an annual award from the World Association of Newspapers (WAN) to recognise newspapers that do the most to develop young readership, has added a press freedom category. This will honour newspapers that teach effectively about the fragility and importance of press freedom in a democratic society. Read more >>

International radio playwriting competition deadline looms
The closing date for the BBC World Service and British Council International Radio Playwriting Competition 2009 is on 31 March, 2009. Entries must consist of one-hour radio plays written by anyone living outside the UK. There are two first prizes: for the best play by a writer with English as their first language and for the best play by a writer with English as their second language. These two winners will each receive £2500 sterling and a trip to London to see their play being recorded for broadcast on BBC World Service in the World Drama slot. For more information click here.

First Euro-Africa Cooperation Forum set for Brussels
Sub-Saharan African and European policymakers will be brought together along with ICT research organisations to address the development of collaborative projects. The two-day event is organised by the European Commission (DG INFSO) with the support of the African Union Commission and the EU-FP7 EuroAfrica-ICT project. It will be held from 25 - 26 March, 2009 at the EC premises in Brussels, Belgium. Read more >>

35 speakers lined up for WAIF 2009
West Africa Investment Forum 2009 (WAIF), will be held in Abuja, Nigeria, and organised by the Commonwealth Business Council, Government of Nigeria, Nigerian Investment Promotion Commission (NIPC) and ECOWAS. The event will host international business leaders, government and organisations with an interest in promoting the West Africa Region.
